Our quality management system complies with the requirements of DIN EN 9100 and is designed in a process oriented way. Beside the requirements of DIN EN 9100, customer requirements and applicable legal and governmental requirements, we consider in our planning and continuous improvement all stakeholders in the context of our company.

The intense involvement of our quality management and assurance into each project is crucial for reaching our business goals related to customer satisfaction and product conformity, as was as our own high quality goals. Hardware Development

Our team has many years of experience in the area of hardware development according to RTCA DO-254, for civil and military aviation. As needed for each individual project, we apply all relevant processes to the necessary extent, from definition of high-level, low-level and derived requirements via planning, development, verification and validation up to certification.

Software Development

Our software development according to RTCA DO-178C covers all software life cycle activities required by the specification - from planning and requirements engineering up to independent verification.
By close cooperation with system and hardware development, consistent architectures with optimized utilization of the hardware resources are achieved.

By creating a SysML/UML based high-level model, we get a concise and early understanding how the blueprint of the component should look like. Dependent on your predefined technology choice or our suggestion, we perform the software implementation in a model-driven approach or by hand-written code.

Technical Documentation

Our technical documentation offers the creation of clear and consistent new documentation, and revision and examination of existing documentation.

Planning, development, production, and verification are recorded in detail as an essential part of the final product.

The whole technical documentation of a project is created in close collaboration with the operating departments, based on a comprehensive catalogue of templates and according to the norms and standards as agreed upon with the customer. It is checked for completeness, conformity, and plausibility and is subsequently approved and controlled. It is stored using a version control system.

We offer our know-how and our possibilities in tool-based calculation of reliability forecast as well as safety and risk management on device level to ensure during the development phase that the required reliability and fault tolerance meets all requirements. Already during the design phase it can be assessed which reliability the product can offer at the end. The calculation is based on field data which are collected in a handbook, e.g. the MIL-HDBK-217 in conjunction with ANSI/VITA 51.1. With these data, action can be taken early in the development phase to improve the quality and maintainability in a sustainable way.

Production

We produce prototypes, pre-production and series production devices in small batches compliant with the approved design data. The production or mounting of devices, modules and cable harnesses is performed according to out processes and work instructions which fit the applicable norms and specifications to guarantee full product conformity and a high quality.

The execution of each step in the workflow and the used production facilities are documented in a traceable way. The verification is performed by the Quality Assurance department which is closely following all production activities.

To implement our company policy we established a quality management system according to the aviation specific quality management norm DIN EN 9100, which is applied in all departments and is valid and mandatory for the whole staff according to their field of responsibility.

Our quality management system is designed in a hierarchical and process oriented way and besides the requirements of DIN EN 9100, it also considers customer requirements, legal and governmental requirements, and all stakeholders in the context of our company. It contains well-defined process sequences, procedures and work instructions, forms, and checklists.

Hardware Development

Compliance with restrictive processes during development of complex hardware for applications in the aerospace domain becomes more and more demanding. Requirements originate from DIN EN 9100 and RTCA DO-254 which is applied by the certification authorities to development of complex hardware. The extent and rigor of the objectives is determined by the required Design Assurance Level of item under development.

In our company, the whole development process is supported by cutting edge measurement technology and industry-proven software tools. To satisfy our own high expectations on reliability and quality, we perform accompanying MTBF and FMEA calculations.

FPGA Development

Increasing complexity and numerous projects’ requirements place FPGAs as integral part of avionics development today. Being the subset of the hardware development, FPGA development strictly follows the DO-254 processes. In addition to compulsory processes and procedures, the handwritten FPGA designs strictly follow in-house VHDL coding standards. Our expertise encompasses major FPGA vendor technologies offering full life-cycle development or consulting services to combat specific implementation hurdles. CUONICS FPGA know-how is focused on specific avionics interfaces like ARINC-429 or MIL-STD-1553, and extends to widely used high/low speed interfaces like PCIe, UART, SPI, I²C. We are capable of delivering complex avionics FPGA solutions that include complex processing algorithms or glue logic for the overall control of the embedded integrated circuits. FPGA verification is compulsory according to DO-254; our support extends to verification and certification up to DAL ‘A’. Digital Signal Processing algorithms and video processing are gaining huge momentum in FPGA designs. CUONICS FPGA team experience in this area guarantees FPGA vendor tailored efficient solutions in high-speed processing designs covering from initial floating-point problem solving in Matlab/Simulink of complex mathematical algorithms ending in optimized fixed-point FPGA implementation. The services extend to Software Defined Radios, IIR/FIR filter design, decimation/interpolation, different modulations used in communication channels and general video processing.

Math blocks (DSP slices) of FPGA devices are powerful and generally numerous. Collaborating with us will ensure that algorithms are ‘tuned’ to the maximum utilization level reliving you from last-minute search of pin-compatible ‘bigger’ FPGA devices, every FF, LUT, BRAM or DSP slice counts.

Software Development

Our software development takes the objectives of RTCA DO-178C into consideration – from the beginning throughout all phases of the project, in order to ensure a smooth certification process. By modeling the processes with the same tool chain we use for system and software architecture and design, they are seamlessly integrated into the project work and are brought to life as warrantors for highest quality. The process model can be specifically tailored according to the required Design Assurance Level and may even be extended by customer specific parts, e.g. resulting from additionally required norms and regulations.

Traceability records are created easily during daily work, and besides playing a crucial role in the certification, they also enable us to maintain and adapt the developed software in the long run.

Information flow between the involved roles from the development departments of hardware, software and system as well as between development and independent verification is organized by a version and application life cycle management system which ensures the process conformance and guides the users interactively through the procedures worked out in tight cooperation with the quality management department.

 

Quality Assurance

We consider both process-centred and product-centred quality assurance. Continuous monitoring of the implemented processes and the results they produce guarantees consistent process and norm compliancy, and early error detection in all departments. This ensures that we achieve our high quality standards.

Quality assurance as part of our quality management is deeply integrated in the projects to ensure we achieve our high product-centred quality standards. This integration starts at the project planning stage by using the integral processes of RTCA DO-254 respectively DO-178C. In the verification the quality assurance is witnessing and supervising acceptance tests, functional tests and reviews. Additionally internal audits are conducted for all departments on a regular basis.

Production

We produce prototypes, pre-production and series production devices in small batches compliant with the approved design data. Test Rig Construction

From planning to production – we offer you individually developed test rigs, created in line with your requirements and optimized using our know-how – everything from a single source! We place great importance on highest quality and customer satisfaction. Our optimized processes, flexibility and experience provide you with effective solutions for your application.

Our experienced engineers and technicians design individual systems, from manual test devices with user control to automatic test rigs. Depending on use, test protocols can be created via integrated PC interfaces.

On request, our qualified staff can also conduct initial operation or function tests and coach your team to use the test rig correctly.

Safety
